Position Title: Quality Manager

Location: Adler- Rapid Mold Solutions

Department: Quality Assurance

Reports to: Plant Manager/Operations Manager

Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary:

The Quality Manager is responsible for ensuring that all products and processes meet or exceed customer expectations in a tool and die shop with injection molding operations. This position oversees the development, implementation, and maintenance of quality management systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards, customer requirements, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Quality Manager leads the quality team, interfaces with clients, and collaborates with production, engineering, and management to resolve quality issues, improve processes, and drive operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Quality Management System (QMS)
    • Develop, implement, and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with ISO or industry-specific standards.
    • Ensure compliance with customer-specific quality requirements and applicable regulations.
    • Conduct internal audits, manage non-conformance reports (NCR), and lead corrective/preventive action processes.
  2. Process Improvement
    • Work with production and engineering teams to identify and implement process improvements to reduce defects, scrap, and rework.
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or other methodologies.
    • Analyze data and key metrics to monitor trends and initiate corrective actions where necessary.
  3. Inspection and Testing
    • Oversee the inspection and testing processes, ensuring that all products meet specifications and quality standards.
    • Ensure that the appropriate measurement tools, techniques, and equipment are used and properly maintained.
    • Review first article inspections, IQPQ or other part qualification process, and sample submissions.
  4. Team Leadership
    • Lead and develop a team of quality inspectors, auditors, and technicians.
    • Provide training and mentoring to quality personnel and other departments on quality-related topics and tools.
    • Foster a culture of quality across the organization through training, awareness, and leadership.
  5. Customer Relations
    • Serve as the primary contact for quality-related customer issues and audits.
    • Address customer complaints and lead root cause analysis and problem-solving efforts to prevent recurrence.
    • Prepare and deliver quality reports, certifications, and other required documentation for customers.
  6. Supplier Quality Management
    • Establish and maintain supplier quality standards.
    • Conduct supplier audits and manage supplier quality improvement programs.
    • Work with purchasing and suppliers to resolve any issues related to incoming materials or parts.
  7. Compliance and Documentation
    • Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping of quality control processes, inspections, and test results.
    • Maintain up-to-date procedures, work instructions, and other documentation as required by the QMS.
    • Stay updated on changes in industry standards, regulations, and best practices, and implement necessary changes in the organization.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field is preferred.
  • Quality certifications (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, ASQ Certification) are a plus.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in quality management within a tool and die shop or injection molding environment.
  • Strong knowledge of injection molding processes, tool and die manufacturing, and materials commonly used in these industries.
  • Proven experience with quality management systems (ISO 9001 or equivalent) and statistical process control (SPC).
  • Understanding of CMM and other metrology equipment/practices

Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to perform root cause analysis using tools like 8D, Fishbone diagrams, and 5 Whys.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills to interact effectively with cross-functional teams and customers.
  • Proficient in using quality management software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills for interpreting complex data.

Work Environment:

  • The role may involve exposure to a manufacturing environment where PPE (personal protective equipment) is required.
  • Some travel may be required for customer visits or supplier audits.

Initial Projects:

  • Revamp the QMS and prepare for ISO and other related certifications.
  • Revamp legacy Standards and Procedures.

Job Description/Duties:

Must perform any/all Mold Design responsibilities required by Adler tooling divisions utilizing CREO, Solidworks, etc to create accurate 3D part and steel models and drawings.

Perform part/drawing revisions as required and conform to the Adler RMS ECN process for document control.

Be able to perform additional tasks to support Sales, Project Management, Molding and Tooling Division Teams, such as investigations on tooling/molding issues and or optimizations, and assistance with pre-engineering work for customer quotation purposes.

Participate in all department training seminars and adhere to all department policies and procedures.

This position is a Lead Design role and will require willingness to train entry level and early career designers in proper mold design practices and fundamentals. This also will include travel as required by the company for individual training sessions within the company.

This role will also require being able to support other Adler locations and divisions and willingness and ability to travel on-site as needed by the company for such support.

Other duties related to the performance of this role not specifically listed above, may be assigned at the discretion of company management.
